In the Catholic Church, relics are physical objects associated with a saint or candidate for sainthood - part of the person's body or something he or she came in contact with. Relics are not worshipped but treated with religious respect. Praying in the presence of, or touching, an object like this helps the faithful focus on the saint's life and virtues, so that through the intercessions of the saint, an individual can be drawn closer to God.
On September 19, 2024, Holy Spirit Parish was proud to accept, and act as custodians of, an authentic first-class relic of Saint Pio, installed by the Saint Pio Foundation.
The relic, which is a piece of cloth stained with blood that was used to cleanse Saint Pio's side, is permanently housed next to the "I Embrace You" replica statue in the Saint Pio Chapel of St. Mary Church.
