INTRODUCTION
The Saint Pio Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization that promotes the knowledge of, and devotion to, Saint Pio of Pietrelcina (also known as Padre Pio), one of the most venerated contemporary saints of the Catholic Church. The Saint Pio Foundation works with institutions and individuals that share the same vision - to alleviate the physical and emotional hunger of the underserved in a dignified and supportive manner. This includes providing spiritual, physical, and emotional nourishment. Hence, the foundation focuses on three primary areas: education, hunger, and spirituality.
EDUCATION
Among its many activities, the Saint Pio Foundation organizes and sponsors educational, social, and cultural initiatives that influence and advance the public's knowledge of the teachings, legacy, and importance of Saint Pio. These events feature gallery displays of the foundation's authentic and historic photographs of the Saint, a video documentary about his life, and the presentation of keynote speakers who have deep knowledge of the life of Padre Pio. The important goal of the foundation to sponsor a feature-length docudrama film about the life of Saint Pio was realized in 2024. This docudrama can be viewed at Holy Spirit Parish as part of your pilgrimage.
HUNGER
Following Saint Pio's example, the Saint Pio Foundation sponsors many charitable projects in support of the less fortunate including the annual Christmas Challenge which provides thousands of boxes of food for families in need and the annual Pizza for a Smile which provides several thousand pizzas that are handed directly to needy recipients with words of encouragement - all in exchange for a smile.
SPIRITUALITY
Perhaps the most important of its initiatives is the Saint Pio Foundation's annual tour of authentic relics of Saint Pio to archdioceses, dioceses, and parishes across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The majority of those attending these tours, unable to make it to San Giovanni Rotondo or Pietrelcina, enjoy an opportunity to have a prayerful and spiritual encounter with the Saint closer to home.
